The menu at J.D. Hoyt’s is a carnivore’s dream, featuring a variety of hearty, charcoal-charred entrées that boast bold, smoky flavors. Standouts include the J.D.’s Famous Grilled Cajun Pork Chops, which deliver a tender, juicy bite with a perfectly seasoned Cajun crust, and the Bone-In Rib Eye, a thick, juicy cut that’s expertly grilled to bring out its rich, beefy essence. For steak lovers seeking a touch of finesse, the Steak Spaulding — a filet mignon crowned with a delicate crab cake and béarnaise sauce — offers a sublime surf-and-turf twist, balancing richness and freshness beautifully.
Seafood dishes like the Lobster Risotto and Shrimp Scampi present creamy, indulgent flavors that are both comforting and sophisticated, while lighter fare such as the Charcoal Grilled Scallops provide a tender, juicy contrast that still packs a flavorful punch. Vegetarians will appreciate the Vegetarian Cajun Pasta, a thoughtfully seasoned dish that doesn’t skimp on spice or heartiness.
J.D. Hoyt’s is not just about steaks — the appetizers here set the tone for a vibrant Creole-inspired meal. The world-famous Buddy Bowl, a layered, baked family-style bowl featuring red beans, dirty rice, and Monty’s Creole sauce topped with melted cheese, offers a symphony of smoky, savory flavors that tease and tantalize the palate. Complement it with the freshly baked J.D. Hoyt’s Famous Garlic Cheese Toast or their perfectly crisped Onion Rings to start your experience right.
When it comes to beverages, the bar at J.D. Hoyt’s is equally impressive. Their masterfully crafted cocktails such as the Dirty Martini Vodka with Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives and the sophisticated Boulevardier underscore the careful attention to drink quality and presentation. Whether you prefer a robust glass of wine or a perfectly balanced cocktail, the bar team here always delivers with style and precision.

There is an undeniable feeling of pride in the kitchen’s care for each dish, evidenced by the juicy, well-seared steaks and thoughtfully paired sides. Steak was mediocre. Not well seasoned. Supposed to be bone in ribeye, bone was non existent. Service average at best. The bernaise as excellent. Underwhelming.
Absolutely top notch. This is the type of place you would go to impress clients just as much as propose to your fiance. The atmosphere is premium, the staff is extremely professional and friendly. We had a wonderful experience. The menu has so many amazing options: 1. Definitely get the pig wings...2. the house pork chops are to die for. Cooked to a nice medium, still juicy and the Cajun seasoning was spot on. Drinks were great as well, even finished with a Brandy Alexander to end the evening. Definitely a place to come back to.
We went here for my birthday celebration and it was truly a 10/10 experience. Jody and Kate were our servers and could not have been more kind and attentive. The food was excellent, the holiday decorations were beautiful, and the entire staff made us feel so welcome. A wonderful experience all around—thank you!
The steak thick, well-seared, and juicy—definitely cooked with care. The side of mixed vegetables adds a healthy touch, though they appear a bit oversteamed. The jus or au jus sauce on the side is a nice touch for added flavor. • Crab Cake Dish: This crab cake has a rich, crispy crust and is served with a fresh-looking side salad and lemon wedge. The sauce (likely a remoulade or creamy mustard blend) is attractively served and looks rich and flavorful. : Everything is plated simply but cleanly. The food looks hearty and satisfying
A large group of us came here recently to celebrate a friend’s birthday and we were all blown away by the service. Serving a table of that size can be a tricky thing to do smoothly but our servers Jodi and Kate were exceptional and delivered a flawless experience from the moment we sat down. They were endearing and charismatic but also timed our meal beautifully while making sure our drinks never sat empty. They were also very accommodating of the one gluten free person at the table. 10/10 experience for our first time dining here and we will be back!
One of my best friends and I had our dinner together last Saturday (11/1) that we do every few months, and we like to pick a new place in Minneapolis that we haven't been to for dinner. We chose J.D. Hoyt's because it fit the bill for the atmosphere we were looking for as well as location. First and foremost, our experience was made a 10/10 by our server Kate. She was one of the best servers we both ever had for many reasons. She was so kind and patient, and ultimately extremely knowledgeable and intuitive of the experience we were looking for. All of her recommendations were spot on, and I can't tell you how much she enhanced our dining experience. We had the Todd's Chopped Wedge with chicken (so good!), the Cajun Tender Tips (perfectly cooked and seasoned), the American Kobi Beef Burger (once again perfectly cooked to Medium Rare as requested and the patty had fantastic flavor), Andy Luger's Cajun Pasta (my friend got this and said it was delicious), and also to note their homemade potato chips are SO GOOD! I am not a potato chip person at all, and these are certainly the exception. Yum! Crispy and flavorful and dipped in the seasoned sour cream is a match made in heaven. All of this accompanied by some well-made slightly dirty martinis! Once again, thank you Kate for making our evening very special! You are incredibly well suited for the service industry and really good at what you do. When we return, we will certainly ask to be seated in your section. Cheers to you!
There are some booths that offer the true super club vibe and the dining room is a little less so. They are known for their charcoal grill. We tried the small buddy bowl, which was good but basically cheese covered red beans & Rice and cheesey toast. I got the tenderloin fillet and my friend had the Pork chop. Steak was perfectly done and a side of mashed potatoes were ok. My friends pork chop was huge and delicious I heard. Prices are very reasonable for the quality.
